Marielle and John celebrated with a rustic, formal affair in the mountains of North Carolina.

The bride and groom first met as students at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. "John is somewhat reserved in nature," describes Marielle. "He didn't seem to pick up on the fact that I wanted to get to know him better."

But Marielle was resourceful: she told their mutual friend Ben Holland she thought John was cute,
 with the intention that he would pass along the secret to John. Brian, who would later become
 the couple's best man, took the hint -- and so, apparently, did John. The couple dated throughout their
 college years and later became engaged
